The pass-band coupling loops and color-coded SO-239 jacks are installed in the holes closest to the tuning knob. The loop orientation determines the insertion loss. The notch coupling probes and SO-239 jacks are installed in the holes furthest from the tuning knob. The far end of one probe or loop is mounted in a fixed hole, while the other mounts to a slotted hole and can be adjusted.

These four photos are of a cavity with notch coupling probes. These wires are about 1/4 to 3/8 inch above the side of the cavity. The probe on the left is mounted to the fixed hole; the probe on the right is mounted to the slotted hole.

Here's one of the probes and SO-239 jacks removed from the cavity.

The next five photos are measurements of the coupling probe. They are identical except for being bent in the opposite direction.

Alan Beard VK2ZIW posted an inside view of a cavity with the coupling loops. These are also arranged with one loop in a fixed location (on the right) and the other in the movable slot (on the left).
