PRO-2038 Programmable Scanner
(200-0413) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18273

TURNING ON THE SCANNER/SETTING VOLUME AND SQUELCH

1. Turn SQ fully clockwise.

2. Turn OFF/VOL clockwise until you hear a hissing sound.

3. Turn SQ counterclockwise, then leave it set to a point just after the
    hissing sound stops.

NOTES: If the scanner picks up unwanted, partial, or very weak
transmissions, turn SQ counterclockwise to decrease the scanner's
sensitivity to these signals. If you want to listen to a weak or
        distant station, turn SQ clockwise.

If SQ is adjusted so you always hear a hissing sound, the scanner
        will not scan properly.

OFF/VOL adjusts both the broadcast volume and the volume of the
beep you hear when you press the scanner's keys.

SCANNING THE BANKS

To scan a service scan bank, press any of the following buttons.

    POLICE
    FIRE/EMG
    WX
    AIR
    MARINE

To scan the PRIVATE scan bank, press PRIVATE.

NOTE: You cannot scan the PRIVATE scan bank until you have stored
frequencies in it. See "Storing Frequencies into Channels.

The scanner scans through all nonlocked channels (see "Lock Out," Faxback
Doc. # 18274, Special Features) in the bank you selected, SCAN scrolls
across the display, and the bank's name appears at the top of the display.

The scanner scans the channels within the bank from the lowest to the
highest channel number. If the scanner detects a broadcast, it stops on
the channel, and you hear the broadcast. When the broadcast ends, the
scanner continues to scan higher channels in the bank. When the scanner
finishes scanning all channels in the bank, it returns to the lowest
channel in the bank and starts scanning again.

SEARCHING THE FREQUENCY BANDS

You can search for transmissions within any of the scanner's 12 frequency
bands.

1. Be sure MEMOLOCK OFF/ON is set to OFF (see "Using Memolock," Faxback
    Doc. # 18274, Special Features).

2. Press SEARCH, then repeatedly press BAND until you see the frequency
    band you want to search.

The scanner displays SRCH and the range for each frequency band. Then,
after about 3 seconds, the scanner displays SRCH /\ or \/ and starts to
automatically search the frequencies in the band. When the scanner
finds a transmission, it stops on that frequency and displays the
frequency's number until the transmission stops, then it starts
    searching again.

3. To manually search the frequency band, press HOLD after the scanner
starts automatically searching the frequencies. The scanner displays
HOLD, SRCH /\ or SRCH \/, and a frequency within the band you selected.

Repeatedly press /\ to search from the lower to the upper range, or \/
to search from the upper to the lower range. Press and hold down /\ or
\/ to quickly step through the frequencies. Press SEARCH to return to
    automatic search.

NOTE: You can change the direction of either an automatic or manual
search by pressing /\ or \/ once.

MONITORING A FREQUENCY

When the scanner displays a specific frequency while scanning the banks
or searching the frequency bands, you can continuously monitor the
frequency. This is useful if you hear an emergency broadcast on a
frequency and do not want to miss any details (even though there might be
periods of silence).

To monitor a frequency while scanning or searching, press HOLD while the
frequency is displayed until HOLD appears. The scanner stays on the
frequency.

To continue scanning a bank, press a service scan bank button or Private.
To continue automatically searching a frequency band, press SEARCH. To
continue manually searching a frequency band, press /\ or \/.

STORING FREQUENCIES INTO CHANNELS

1. When the scanner displays a frequency you want to store while scanning
the banks or searching the frequency bands, press PROG. CH flashes on
the display, and the scanner displays HOLD and the frequency number.

2. Press PRIVATE, POLICE, or FIRE/EMG to store the frequency in a channel.
For example, if you want to store the frequency in one of the channels
in the Police service scan bank, press POLICE.

The scanner displays HOLD and PRIVATE, POLICE, or FIRE/EMG, and the
frequency number you want to store flashes alternately with a channel
    number and a frequency.

If the scan bank you selected has an empty channel, the frequency
number flashes alternately with the lowest empty channel number and
000.0000. If the scan bank you selected has no empty channels, the
frequency number flashes alternately with the channel number of the
last channel where you stored a frequency and the frequency already
    stored in that channel.

NOTE: If you press a key other than PRIVATE, POLICE, or FIRE/EMG, the
scanner beeps several times and displays ERROR. If you are
scanning the banks, press PRIVATE, POLICE, or FIRE/EMG, press
PROG, then repeat Step 2 to continue. If you are searching the
frequency bands, press SEARCH, press PROG, then repeat Step 2 to
           continue.

3. Press PROG to store the frequency in the lowest empty channel, or
repeatedly press /\ or \/ to select a channel number, then press PROG.
The scanner displays HOLD, SCAN, the channel number you stored the
frequency in, PRIVATE, POLICE, or FIRE/EMG on the top line of the
    display, and the frequency number.

NOTE: If you select a channel with a frequency already stored in it,
the scanner replaces the frequency with the new one.

To cancel storing the frequency, press BAND.

4. Repeat Steps 1-3 to store more frequencies into channels.

5. When you finish storing frequencies, set MEMOLOCK OFF/ON to ON to
prevent accidentally changing them (see "Using Memolock," Faxback Doc.
    # 18274, Special Features).

DELETING FREQUENCIES FROM CHANNELS

You can delete a frequency from a channel by storing an empty frequency in
its place.

NOTES: You cannot delete or change any of the frequencies in the scanner's
frequency bands or the pre-set frequencies in the service scan
        banks.

When you delete a frequency from a channel, the scanner
automatically locks out the channel (see "Lock Out," Faxback Doc. #
        18274, Special Features).

1. Be sure MEMOLOCK OFF/ON is set to OFF (see "Using Memolock," Faxback
    Doc. # 18274, Special Features).

2. Press SEARCH, then repeatedly press BAND to select a frequency band.
The scanner displays SRCH and the frequency band range for each band.

3. Press HOLD when the scanner starts automatically searching that band.
The scanner displays HOLD, a frequency within the frequency band, and
    SRCH /\ or SRCH \/.

4. Press PROG. CH flashes on the display.

5. Press /\ or \/ until the scanner displays 000.0000. CH continues to
    flash, and HOLD is displayed.

Note: The scanner displays 000.0000 between the upper and lower limits
    of a frequency band.

6. Press PRIVATE, POLICE, or FIRE/EMG to select the scan bank which
contains the channel with the frequency you want to delete.

The scanner displays HOLD and PRIVATE, POLICE, or FIRE/EMG, and a
    channel number flashes.

If the scan bank you selected has an empty channel, the frequency
number flashes alternately with the lowest empty channel number and
000.0000. If the scan bank you selected has no empty channels, the
frequency number flashes alternately with the channel number of the
last channel you stored a frequency in and the frequency already stored
    in the channel.

7. Press /\ or \/ until the scanner displays the channel containing the
frequency you want to delete. 000.0000 flashes alternately with the
channel number and the frequency number.

8. Press PROG to store the empty frequency. The scanner displays the
    channel number and 000.0000.

To cancel deleting the frequency, press BAND.

9. Repeat Steps 2-8 to delete more frequencies.

10. When you finish deleting frequencies, set MEMOLOCK OFF/ON to ON to
prevent accidentally changing them (see "Using Memolock," Faxback Doc.
    # 18274, Special Features).
